On the eve of the new Premier League season, Mikel Arteta has revealed that he shares the same excitement as most of the country’s football fans.
All eyes will be on Selhurst Park tomorrow as we kick off the new campaign against the Eagles, and the boss admits he’s just as anxious as our fans to get back into Premier League action.
Speaking at the first official press conference of the season, he said, “It’s great that people are excited. But there is great excitement in the Premier League because many clubs have done a lot of work and are getting stronger and stronger. The competition is really big; We focus on what we can do, what we want to do and we want to be at the top of the table.
“Every day you try to enjoy more and love your players more and feel more right where you are. The more you do things related to your feelings and when you share that feeling with the club like we do, it becomes normal.
“In the end it’s not about me, it’s about how we all feel about what we do. When we do that, we all feel an important part of it, especially our fans. I always say it will be very, very powerful.
A promising summer has seen five new signings and six goals against a mix of opposition at various points, and while Arteta is satisfied with the good vibes around the club, he doesn’t think Patrick Vieira can create a castle. A very different prospect on Friday night.
Reflecting on the past two months, he said: “I think we’re all excited. We had the pre-season we wanted. We had a good preparation. Good result. We had a good performance and a good preparation. But now the ball starts rolling in a completely different way against a Premier League side tomorrow evening and we know what that is. Waiting there.
But the truth is, we are at the level of energy and desire to have a successful season and we need to show that on the field tomorrow night.
