The 2022 Presidents Cup continues this week in Charlotte, North Carolina, as the United States looks to consolidate its power and win its ninth straight title since 2005. As the Americans attempt to win their fifth consecutive Presidents Cup at home, the international team is looking for its first win since 1998 (or at least its first match since 2003).

The United States is the favorite going into this year’s Quail Hollow Golf Club and has gotten off to a good start during the four rounds on Day 1, taking a significant 4-1 lead. Not only is the American team strong from top to bottom, but the international side is missing many players as some have decided to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, leaving them ineligible.

Still, there is plenty of potential for the international team, which could cause a major upset if things go their way. And that effort needs to start Friday in four-ball play, a style the international team has stuck with the United States despite recent struggles in four-ball play.

The Presidents Cup has more matches than the Ryder Cup, so that setup plays right into Davis Love III’s Team 12 hands. History has not been kind to black and white. Despite being tied for wins on international soil, the US is a perfect seven for seven within its borders. Only one of those events was closer than a three-point margin, and that was back in 1996 when the team of Corey Pavin and Mark O’Meara edged the International team 16.5-15.5.
