A Tar Heel fan drops a song celebrating Black’s return

This UNC basketball fan is thrilled with Lakey Black’s decision to spend another year in Chapel Hill.

Leaky Black was one of the most criticized players of the UNC basketball program in recent memory. However, after being an integral part of the Tar Heels’ remarkable turnaround last season, Carolina fans have earned Leakey the respect they deserve all-time.

When UNC beat Syracuse last season, there were rumblings that it might not be the last time Concord, the N.C. native, was out of the dugout at the Dean Dome. On April 15, Black made his official announcement Decision To return to Carolina for a fifth season with an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to Covid.

Tar Heel fans everywhere were thrilled to hear that not only Black, but Armando Bacote, RJ Davis and Caleb Love will be back to run it next season.

However, one fan (Mike Catalano on YouTube) was so excited about Leaky’s return that he decided to make a song about it:

This Rolling Stones parody praised Black for his defensive prowess and ability to shut down opposing teams’ best players. There are also some funny values and shots included by Duke (along with some profanity).

Black averaged 4.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season. While these are solid numbers, Leakey’s impact goes far beyond the stat sheet as he is one of the best defenders in the country. He proved this by shutting out star players like Justin Lewis, Matthew Meyer and AJ Griffin during the Carolina season.

Not only is Black a great player on the court, he is also a leader and representative of the team off the court and in the media. His decision to return to Carolina was a win-win for Leakey, UNC and the sport of college basketball.

With the season more than three months away, UNC fans can spend some time enjoying this ode to their quarterback as they wait for next season.
