A year later, looking at Bertuzzi’s agreement

A year before and after the Detroit Red Wings re-signed Tyler Bertuzzi to a $9.5M extension. Even after the signing, rumors of where the team and Bertuzzi stand continue to swirl. Some include his vaccination status. Some include the value it contains that can be used to find other pieces between rebuilds.

Bertuzzi easily scored 30 goals and 62 points in 68 games, allowing the team to return its investment. What will happen after one year?

Bertuzzi is well liked in the Red Wings locker room.

He was called a “little hillbilly goofball” by Oscar Sundqvist. Bertuzzi seems to be bringing the punches after his teammate’s story. Even former head coach Jeff Blashill was a fan of what Bertuzzi brought to Detroit. Despite his stellar year, questions still swirl about whether Bertuzzi will be a Red Wing a year from now.

He should make it interesting in the last year of the contract.
