Bears run back David Montgomery He played a total of four special teams games in his career. He may play more this season.
The team leadership is embracing the opportunity.
“Funny thing about David: The other day he was taking a couple reps on special teams and the reps were over and he said, ‘Hey, Can I join the scout team? Because my representatives passed? Can I join the scout team and give these guys a look? “That speaks volumes for (GM) Ryan Pauls and (coach) Matt Eberfels about the culture these guys are creating.”
The more a player can do, the more chances he gets and the bigger the pay check. Montgomery is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so it’s an important season for him.
“Wherever they need me, I’ll be ready to be there,” Montgomery said. “I’ve never played special teams before. But I always like to get better and I really enjoy learning.
Montgomery had at least 267 catches, 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.
