UN officials declined to comment. Crystal Palace’s Premier League opener is against London rivals Arsenal on Friday.

Benteke, 31, is United’s biggest prize in the summer to improve their bottom-placed squad. The new coach is Wayne Rooney. He scored 10 goals in 2020-21, but just four in 11 starts (25 games) last season. All four arrived last fall.

With the Belgian national team, Benteke scored 18 goals in 45 appearances.

Benteke joins the striker as United’s latest signing of the summer transfer and business window. Miguel Berry (Columbus team) goalkeeper David Ochoa (Real Salt Lake), winger Martin Rodriguez (Altay, Turkey), attacking midfielder Ravel Morrison (Derby County, England) and defensive midfielder Victor Paulson (Schalk, Germany)
