Sarpsborg take on the visitors Molde in the round 8 match of Norwegian Eliteserien. The match will be played on Thursday, May 26th at Sarpsborg Stadion (Sarpsborg).
Sarpsborg could have one of the best seasons in its short history. The White-Blues were founded just 14 years ago, in 2008. We started from a semi-amateur level, but in 2011 we already managed to make our debut in the “elite”. Then an instant relegation followed, but a year later the team again rose to the Eliteserien, and already established itself there. The peak year was 2017: bronze and reaching the cup final. But after that, it was not possible to climb above the 8th place (as was the case in the last draw). Against this background, the current start looks promising. Having lost at first to Viking, then they managed to gaine 10 points in 4 rounds. And only Lilleström beat them 1-0 at home. It looked like it was a blow, followed by a 1-2 at home with Alesund, a table neighbor.

Molde in recent years again involved in the fight for the title. «MFK» in 2019 was able to become the champion of Norway, for the 4th time in history. But both before and after that, someone invariably managed to overtake an ambitious team. So in 2021, Bodo/Glimt scored 5 points more. Now the title holder has deflated in the spring, having spent a lot of energy in the playoffs of the Conference League. But this does not mean that the trophy has become more accessible for Molde. Firstly, there are other competitors that were able to start briskly – Lillestrom and especially Viking. And, most importantly, the wards of Erling Mo themselves are not bad, but still they are far from perfect. After 2 victories at the very start, the team had a failure when they managed to take only 1 point in 3 rounds. And only in the middle of May they managed to gain momentum again – 3-0 with Odd, 2-0 with Ålesund, 2-1 with Kristiansund.
Molde has 3 wins in the last 4 head-to-heads with the only defeat – away 0-1 last season. The teams have already managed to cross in this draw, within the framework of the cup in March, and then Sarpsborg lost again – 2-4. The visitors are now gaining momentum and look more confident. But let’s insure ourselves with a zero handicap.
