After her success at the 2021 US Open, Emma Raducanu has not been able to continue her best tennis and is having a very complicated season. The British player has come under fire in recent months for signing a number of sponsorship deals with some of the world’s most famous companies, including Tiffany & Co., Dior, Porsche and Vodafone UK.
Some tennis players have commented on her recent appearances on her website and expressed their opinion that the 2002-born player was giving more weight to off-court issues than on-court events.
Emma Raducanu chooses Russian coach: UK shocked
A great opportunity to smile again on the tennis court comes to the United States. Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning her first US Open Grand Slam title and will do anything to repeat herself on the Flushing grounds.
Even before the start of the last major tournament of the year, Raducanu was already in the eye of the storm for the new coach. The English actually chose to rely on Russian coach Dmitry Tursunov, former coach of Aryna Sabalenka, and Annette Kontavet for the time being.
The trial period begins at the Washington WTA tournament. The government of Great Britain did not like this choice of Russia and a real political issue arose. Labor MP Chris Bryant attacked Radukanu bluntly in the Telegraph: “The Kremlin will use this decision to propagandize that Britain is not just worried about the war in Ukraine.”
It’s a shame if Emma continues this idea of hers, I ask her to seriously consider and condemn Putin’s barbaric war. We’ll see if the controversy in Great Britain affects Radukan’s performance in the United States.
She has to defend the title of the US Open and it will not be an easy task considering all the grounds and all the problems she will have on the court.
