Georgetown Central wins a thriller in the quarterfinals of the Junior League World Series


Georgetown Central softball continues its pursuit of a Junior League World Series title Thursday night.

The West Michigan-based 13-14-year-old All-Star won the East Region championship against Milford, Conn., 2-1 in 10 innings in the quarterfinals in Kirkland, Wash. The win sends Central to Friday’s national semifinal against Las Vegas West at 4:30 p.m.

Kaylin Reifschneider delivered the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th with an RBI double in an 0-2 pitch. Claire Merritt got the win for Central, striking out two while walking one and striking out 10.

Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a wild pitch before East tacked on a run in the sixth. East took a 2-1 lead in the ninth, but Central rallied to tie it in the bottom of the ninth and send it to the 10th.

Merritt, Lydia Clark, Mackenzie Kammenga and Morgan Macek had hits for Central.
