With the expected increase in the participation of IMSA works teams in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Detroit’s omission from the Climate Technology Championship is no surprise, given the proximity between the race dates.
However, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge will be on the schedule as a support race for the NTT IndyCar Series’ Motown Day as it moves from Belle Isle to a new downtown course.
Mid-Ohio’s sports car course is more shocking than the loss of the nation’s premier sports car. The place in the schedule is taken by Laguna Seca.
Six of the 11 IMSA events feature all five classes – GTP, LMP2, LMP3, GTD Pro and GTD – and again the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup includes all classes for the four traditional endurance events: Rolex 24 at Daytona (January 26-29), Mobil 1 Ten Two Hours of Sebring are presented by Advance Auto (March 15-18), Sahlen’s Six Hours of Glenn (June 22-25) and the 10-hour Mutt Petite Le Mans at Michelin Raceway in Atlanta (October 11-14).
Five-stage races will also be held at Street America (August 4-6) and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (September 15-17).
The new GTP class With a total of nine events in 2023, the GTD Pro and GTD classes will compete in all 11 WeatherTech Championship races, including GT-only events at Lime Rock Park (July 21-22) and Virginia International Raceway (July 2020). In addition to the race events, the annual Roar will return before the Rolex 24 at Daytona on the weekend of January 20-22. In preparation for the 2023 season, testing for IMSA-sanctioned GTP cars will be held at Michelin Raceway in Atlanta on October 3-5 and at Daytona International Speedway on December 6-7.
A sanctioned test for all WeatherTech Championship contenders is scheduled for Sebring International Raceway in February 2023.
