In the year Potential No. 1 pick in 2023 NHL Draft and Russian forward Matvi Michkov suffered a lower-body injury in a KHL preseason game and will miss at least two months, sources have confirmed. The athleticsCorey Pronman

Michkov, a 17-year-old member of the Russian U25 team, was injured in a match against Russian club Dynamo Minsk. After taking a hit from former NHL defenseman Alexey Emelin, his hopes were damaged. Michkov will likely miss the first month of the KHL regular season, and possibly more.

Last month, Pronman named Michkov as the Second-best available hope for the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft. However, it is under Michkov. Contract with KHL team SKA St. Petersburg until 2026.

Michkov scored two goals and provided three assists in 13 games with SK St. Petersburg last season. Michkov also scored three goals in two games against Team Russia at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Alberta last December, but the tournament was eventually postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
