We’re still two months away from the start of the 2022-23 college basketball season, but ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has a new prediction for the 2023 NCAA Tournament bracket.
Lunardi Indiana has the highest-seeded Big Ten team. And he added this note about the Hoosiers:
The first national championship game I attended was in 1981, Indiana and Bobby Knight over North Carolina and Dean Smith. It’s been in my head since Indiana became part of college basketball royalty. Unfortunately, in my years as a bracket expert, the Hoosiers rarely lived up to that label. In the year An unexpected Final Four in 2002 and a No. 1 seed in 2013 are the best the Hoosiers have managed in a quarter-century — until now, when Indiana proved to be the highest-seeded Big Ten team in the final bracket. The season is still two months away, of course, but here it says that Indiana is finally back — and the sport is better because of it.
The Hoosiers are one of eight Big Ten teams in the Lunardi mock field. Indiana is the No. 3 seed in the East Region.
Other Big Ten teams in previous predictions include Ohio State (No. 9 seed), Rutgers (No. 12 seed, Final Four), Michigan State (No. 7 seed), Illinois (No. 6 seed), Iowa (No. 6 seed). No. 10 seed), Purdue (No. 8 seed) and Michigan (No. 7 seed).
The SEC and Big 12 both have seven teams slated to make the 2022 NCAA Tournament field in Lunardi, and the ACC has six.
