UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) – Jonkel Jones had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Briana Jones added 13 points and nine rebounds, and the Connecticut Sun beat the short-handed Phoenix Mercury 77-64 on Thursday night.
Connecticut started the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to take control. Phoenix, which was without Diana Taurasi for the first time this season, struggled from the field after halftime, losing 13 straight shots to start the third quarter and five straight to start the fourth.
Courtney Williams scored 11 points and Alyssa Thomas had nine points, 13 rebounds and six assists for Connecticut (22-10), which beat Phoenix 87-63 on Tuesday.
Skylar Diggins-Smith added 16 points, Diamond DeShields 14, Shay Peddie 13 and Cunningham 10 for Phoenix (13-19).
Before the game, players from both teams met at center court for a 42-second moment of silence. Two-time U.S. Olympic champion and eight-time All-Star Mercury Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison in Russia on Thursday on drug and racketeering charges. Connecticut coach Kurt Miller wore a “WE ARE BG” t-shirt.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tierra McCowan made a layup with 11.4 seconds left to give Dallas a win over Las Vegas.
Kelsey Plum sank a 3-pointer with 1:11 left to pull Las Vegas to within 80-78, and after a Dallas miss, Chelsea Gray made a jumper from the free throw line to tie it at 80. Dallas guard Tiasha Harris dunked. Clock before driving to the lane and finding a wide-open McCowan under the basket with 11.4 seconds left.
Las Vegas struggled to get on offense and called a timeout with 3.8 seconds left. Gray then found a wide-open Aja Wilson in the paint, but her layup rolled off the rim as time expired.
McCowan finished with 21 points and a season-high 16 rebounds for Dallas (15-16) for the second straight game without leading scorer Arik Ogunbowale. Marina Mabrey and Harris each scored 15 points.
Gray made five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 28 points for Las Vegas (22-10), which lost back-to-back games for just the third time this season. Jackie Young had 19 points, Plum had 15 points and seven assists, and Wilson had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Players from Las Vegas and Dallas locked arms before the game to honor Brittany Griner, who was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison that day. Griner, a two-time U.S. Olympic champion and eight-time WNBA All-Star, has been charged with drug and contraband.
