Martina Navratilova Responds To Fan, Says She’s A Real Goat, Not Serena Williams

Former 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova doesn’t want to call herself a Goat or anything like that, saying it’s “silly” to compare eras. On Twitter, one tennis fan argued why Navratilova, and not Serena Williams, should be declared the greatest of all time.

“You might be right about that, I don’t know.

I think it’s human nature to think that what we have now is the best, the age. Comparing eras is silly IMO. If Carlos Alcaraz had been born 50 years ago, he would not have played the way he does now. But thanks anyway :)” wrote Navratilova in response.

Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo chose Navratilova over Williams

Before Williams’ final, ESPN sports analyst Chris “Mad Dog” Russo explained why Navratilova deserves to be called the GOAT of tennis.

“Serena, in this remarkable era of her dominance, has never seen a competitive top 10 player in historical terms.” Venus is not a top 10 player of all time. Martina lost eight grand. Greatest Slam finals of all time, two to Graf, one to (Monica) Seles, four to Chris Evert, and one to Tracy Austin.

Her tennis career in the 80s was, in my opinion, deeper and better than what Serena has been able to win in the last 20 years, in terms of women’s tennis. Serena is great and controversial. Want to keep her number 1? You can argue about it and there is no problem,” Russo said.

One of Williams’ biggest goals is to complete her career all-time Grand Slam record. Williams, who captured her 23rd Grand Slam title in 2017, has lost her last four Grand Slam finals. Because of this, Margaret Court has not lost 24 Grand Slams.
