The third edition of the Astana Open, Nur-Sultan, will be held between October 3-10. After two ATP 250 events with players in the top 100, the organizers have opened the door to the 2022 edition. Astana has become an ATP 500 tournament, gathering 13 top-25 players and looks like one of the most important events below the Masters 1000 ranking!
After the world. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Stephanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev, another superstar, joined the field. 21-time major winner Novak Djokovic has taken a wild card and will make his debut in Astana in a few weeks.
Novak is currently defending the colors of Team Europe in London with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Djokovic will play in Tel Aviv before heading to Nur-Sultan.
The Serb is 23-5 this season, missing the Australian Open and US Open and saving the year after winning his seventh Wimbledon crown. Novak had to skip the Australian Open after a grueling ten days of negotiations over his visa, and things didn’t go well for him then.
The Serbs suffered early defeats in Dubai and Monte Carlo in the following months before losing the home final to Andrei Rublev in Belgrade. Djokovic lost in the semifinals to Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid and played at a high level a week later in Rome.
The Serbian went on to win his 38th Masters 1000 title as he won without losing a set.

Novak was ready for more at Roland Garros, playing as the defending champion in Paris and not missing the quarterfinals.
Djokovic suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 defeat in four hours and 12 minutes against archrival Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals. Nadal saved eight of 12 break points and converted 43% of his return points in 17 opportunities to create seven break points.
Djokovic recovered in the second set and built a 5-2 lead in the fourth. The Serb squandered two set points at 5-3 and held off a break point to get past the Spaniard. Novak dropped everything at Wimbledon to claim his 21st major crown and his seventh All England Club title.
Djokovic trailed Jannik Sinner two sets to love in the quarterfinals. The Serb took down Nick Kyrgios in four sets to defend his title and move one Wimbledon crown behind Roger Federer.
Novak missed Montreal, Cincinnati and New York and will have more opportunities to compete the rest of the season.
