The rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua is now fully confirmed.
On August 20 in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Britain will meet again for the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight world titles.
But before that, dangerous Croatian competitor Filip Hirgovic will compete for the right to be a future contender.
Top-rated Hrgovic will face China’s undefeated Zilei Zhang in the final qualifier to decide his next IBF title.
After the Usyk vs. Joshua rematch, the WBA is expected to make its next announcement.
Hrgovic will be a huge favorite in the fight as he has been largely eliminated in the division.
All of the heavyweights in the IBF top 15, ranked No. 15, turned down the fight until Zhang arrived, and it took him a long time to prove his rivalry in this final knockout.
The pair were originally supposed to meet in Canelo Alvarez vs Dimitri Bivol in May, but had to reschedule when Hirgovic’s father passed away.
“I respect a fighter like Zilei Zhang, especially since there were so many others who could have fought me and didn’t,” Hirgovich said.
“The respect lives outside the ring, and when I get in there and want to do what I can, it’s business as usual for me – put people away.
“There is great danger in this struggle. I’m a fighter at the top of this division, and I’m going to continue to beat anyone who comes out of Usyk or Joshua when Zhang is locked up.
“I’m entering my prime, and now is the right time to fight the top fighters in this division. I will be the heavyweight champion of the world.
The second eliminator on the card sees Callum Smith meet France’s Mathieu Bauderlieke.
The winner will become the WBC’s mandatory challenger at light-heavyweight – a world title currently held by joint WBC, IBF and WBO champion Artur Beterbiev.
“The last time I was in Jeddah I was crowned the best super-middleweight in the world, so I have fond memories of the place,” Smith said.
“The whole experience was great, and the fans really got behind me, so I’m really looking forward to coming back next month.
“I’m not going to be world champion this time, but it’s a tough fight on a big card and one that should challenge the number one in the division.”
Also on the show will be Somali-British super-bantamweight prospect Ramla Ali and her opponent Crystal Garcia Nova, who will become the first female boxers to compete in an official international event in Saudi Arabia.
Likewise, former Floyd Mayweather man Blank Jack will face Richard Rivera in a cruiserweight bout.
And another former Mayweather promotion fighter, Andrew Tabiti, will face Tyron Spong in a heavyweight bout.
Rounding out the action will be Usyk’s teammate Daniel Lappin in a lightweight bout against Joseph Jurco and Saudi super-lightweight Ziyad Almayouf against Jose Alatorre.
