Richard Childress met with the media on Sunday after Tyler Reddick won the Verizon 200 NASCAR Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was asked about Reddick’s status with the team next season before he joins the 23XI in 2024.
Q. Have you ever wondered when Tyler is gone, sleeping because he’s fighting for you every week? How does it feel to know you have a race?
RICHARD CHILDRESS: Well, after they made their announcement, I met – I thought about it a lot that night, I thought about it a lot, and it’s more than one person. It’s about a team. I lay awake most of the night thinking about what to do, how to handle it.
I went in the next day and told the whole team that it’s not a perfect situation with the way it went down, but we’ll give everything we’ve got this year and we’ll see where we go next year.
Q Richard, going back to your original answer, I think you said that if this is correct, we’ll give away everything we’ve got this year and see what we get next year. Are you still looking for 2024 with 8 and Tyler?
Richard Childress: Yes, Tyler will be in the RCR car next year.
