Ryder Cup – Luke Donald was named the captain of the European team

Luke Donald Henrik Stenson has been named captain of Team Europe for next year’s Ryder Cup following his return to the LIV Golf Series.

Stenson stepped down as Ryder Cup captain after joining the controversial Saudi Arabia series last month and Europe needs a replacement.

44-year-old Donald has now taken the role, the news has been announced on the official Ryder Cup Europe Twitter account Monday afternoon.

Donald has made four Ryder Cup appearances as a player — winning all four — and served as vice-captain twice, first in the 2018 Euro 2018 win over France when Thomas Bjorn and his team suffered in their big loss to Padraig Harrington last year.

“Henrik is not working,” Donald said before the announcement, wishing he had been named captain and given the honor.

Stenson claimed his first win on the LIV Golf circuit in Bedminster over the weekend, earning more than $4 million in the process.
