The college basketball season kicks off in three months, and preseason attitudes are starting to creep in.

You’ll have to wait a little longer to find out if the attention is warranted, but you can expect Indiana to be mentioned frequently as one of the top 25 teams in the Big Ten, if not the favorite.

Along with the preseason accolades comes personal recognition for an IU team that returns 80 percent of the minutes played from a year ago.

John Rothstein, renowned CBS sports commentator and publisher of College Hoops Today Predictions for the Big Ten came out Monday, and as expected, Indiana is front and center.

Rothstein puts the Hoosiers at the top of the preseason Big Ten power rankings, with Purdue coming in as a bit of a surprise at No. 2, followed by Michigan and Ohio State.

It should come as no surprise that senior forward Trace Jackson-Davis was named to Rothstein’s preseason first team All-Big Ten, along with Iowa’s Chris Murray and a trio of big men — Purdue’s Zach Idey, Rutgers’ Cliff O’Morui and Michigan’s Hunter. Dickinson.

Rothstein presented Jackson-Davis and Dickinson with the Big Ten’s preseason Player of the Year.

Monteverde Academy products Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau were both named to Rothstein’s “15 Big Ten impact freshmen,” while Caleb Banks was named one of the “Top Ten Big Ten Under-the-Radar Freshmen.”

Rothstein named the sleeper team, impact and under-the-radar transfers, and players with no IU mentions.

Indiana will begin the 2022-23 season. They open Nov. 7 at home against Morehead State.
