The Islanders threw a curveball at Lane Lambert’s coaching staff Thursday, naming former Devils player and coach John McLean as an assistant and announcing Brian Wiseman will not be joining the staff.

MacLean, who played for the Devils under Lou Lamoriello from 1987-97, was an assistant in New Jersey from 2002-09 and briefly served as head coach from June to December 2010. Sharks, as an assistant.

The Islanders did not disclose a reason for Wiseman’s departure. He’s ready to coach the offense, Lamoriello said, adding that Doug Huda plans to work with the defensive backs in the draft.
