MANISTEE – The Manistee Saints will open the NABF World Series on Thursday, playing the Brooklyn, NY regional winner at 11 a.m. in Battle Creek.

The Saints qualified for the World Series for their second straight Division I title on July 30 after beating the Flint Legends twice.

Sam Schmidt, who threw two shutouts and won the regional tournament MVP award, is the likely starter for Manistee.

Schmidt also recorded six hits, eight walks and 11 strikeouts while on the mound.

In a span of three days, the Saints beat the Midland Tribe twice to win three of four in the regular season before defeating the Legends.

During that time, the Saints received valuable contributions from many players, including Danny Pacinault, Lucas Richardson, Alex Schmidt, Jude Lawson, Kyle Gorski, Roddy McNeil, Marty MacDonald, Jack Hitchens and more.

The Saints next compete in a 16-team pool game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when they face the Lombard Orioles, the team that knocked them out of the tourney last year.

On Friday, the Saints finish their pool play against the Hackensack Troast at noon.

The four pool winners advance to the elimination round to determine the 2022 NABF World Series title.
