Trackhouse Racing official time Project91, the part-time NASCAR Cup Series entry for international stars, no one could have guessed that the team’s two regular full-time entries would both make the playoffs and advance to the second round. The only appearance this season for the No. 91 Chevy Camaro with Kimi Raikkonen. Although he was involved in an accident, he was also successful behind the wheel. The team plans to add Project91 games in 2023, but who should you be watching for Ferrari’s latest Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion?
In an interview with The nine wide sports world In Australia, Shane van Gisbergen has confirmed he is in talks with Trackhouse team owner Justin Marks about a Project91 appearance next season. Van Gisbergen is a two-time Supercars champion and currently leads this year’s points standings. Outside of touring cars, the New Zealander is also an experienced GT3 driver, with wins at the Bathurst 12 Hours and second place at the Rolex 24 Daytona. Having Trackhouse SVG for competition will be a great crossover event.
Van Gisbergen mentioned how good it was to watch Raikkonen race for Trackhouse. Then, he went on to reflect on the districts where he could make his appearance:
“I know that because I’ve run Watkins before. All other tracks are very good. I think they got the Chicago street circuit for the first time next year as well. I think the street circuit would suit me. And that’s going to be good because it’s a new track for everybody, so if everybody’s learning it helps me go faster. That would be nice, but let’s see.”
Despite being a relatively new team, Trackhouse was incredibly competitive and Project91 is a win for all parties involved. The trackhouse promotes itself internationally, and star drivers from overseas get the experience of racing in the NASCAR Cup Series without having to pedal with a small group at the back of the field.
