Blaney’s fuel-only strategy call on his next-to-last pit stop put him in the thick of the battle for victory late in the tournament, but he never felt he didn’t have a fair chance to catch up to eventual winner Tyler Reddick.

Blaney was third at the start of two laps of overtime and as the field entered Turn 1 – where many of the events of the race had been seen – Blaney finished three wide with Daniel Suarez on the right and AJ Allmendinger on the right. on the left.

Suarez, who had been hit from behind by Austin Cindrich, drove into the side of Blaney’s car, causing Blaney to go off the track. Blaney punched Allmendinger’s nose, taking him out of the race to win the race. Before the end, Blaney threw himself at Suarez to express his displeasure at the incident. He finished in 26th place.

After the race, Blaney dismissed the suggestion that his old tires had contributed to the incident.

“No, it’s just a case of breaking. At the end of these things, that’s all people do, they get in there and (literally) screw you up,” he said. “I don’t know who pushed him and I don’t care, but tires didn’t matter in the end.

“We restarted three times at the top and the tires are fine. It’s just a matter of getting through the reboot, but, obviously, that’s a tough thing to ask. People run into each other.

The restart up to Turn 1 was particularly stressful in the race, as drivers deliberately pushed their cars into situations that created a four- and even five-wide race where the cars all had little chance of staying on track.

As the tournament nears its conclusion, the frustration level seems to grow.

“The reason for this is that you will not be able to do it. I just didn’t even have a shot,” Blaney said. “I didn’t have any shots to get to (Reddick) to try to put the defense on him or anything like that, just miss.

“I don’t know. I’m (upset) about it and I have every right to be.”

Blaney remains in a tough position to make the playoffs. Despite being third in the standings, he has yet to win this season.

With 14 different wins this season and four races still to go in the regular season, Blainey has a good score, but could be out of the 16-driver playoff field.
