Here are Wetzel and Barzilai’s best bets for Tuesday’s WNBA schedule:

Las Vegas ACES in Washington Secrets | 8/2 | 7 PM ET

Pick: Mysteries +3.5

The Mystics’ defense has been their calling card all season and has been especially strong in the paint, with Aces MVP candidate Aja Wilson doing a lot of damage. That’s why Washington has two wins against Las Vegas and the third could come in this game.

Given home court and a clean bill of health on the roster (something that’s become common lately), the Mystics shouldn’t be outclassed here. You probably won’t be getting more than one point, so if you can luckily find them here or on the money line, take the value.

Los Angeles Spark at New York Liberty | 8/2 | 7 PM ET

Select: Liberty -3.5

New York and Los Angeles are part of a giant logjam — half of the league — battling for the final three playoff spots, so this game will be crucial. The Liberty can be very hit or miss in terms of betting, thanks mostly to their high 3-point shooting, which leads to a lot of variance.

The good news in this matchup is that Los Angeles’ defense allows the fourth-highest 3-point rating and the highest 3-point percentage in the league. This means New York has to get a lot of clean surfaces. We just need to remove the total cold in that room to get coverage.

PHOENIX MERCURY AT CONNECTICUT SUN | 8/2 | 7 PM ET

Select: Mercury +12.5

This line may be a little overstated due to the injury suffered by Phoenix in New York on Sunday. However, that was the opener of a three-game streak in the Eastern Time Zone, and he had an early tip. Those conditions were not kind to visiting teams from the western part of the country.

When this race starts, Mercury should have had a lot of time to adjust their body clock, so this is a good place to recover. The Suns should be heavy favorites, but any double-digit number here is too high.
